DECLARATION ON NICARAGUA

15th Meeting of the ALBA-TCP Political Council

We the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance of Latin America – People’s Trade Treaty, at the 15th meeting of its Political Council in Havana:

Denounce and condemn the readiness of a group of US members of Congress known for their reactionary, disrespectful and interfering positions, to reintroduce in that country’s Congress the draft for what is known as NICA-ACT.

This NICA-ACT is a perverse desire to impose an economic blockade on the people and Government of Nicaragua, thereby infringing upon the right of that sister country its right to wellbeing, security, work and peace.

It is a new threat of the many which throughout history have hovered over Nicaragua; a new attempt of the imperialist mentalities to gain control over Nicaragua, granting themselves the right to destructively interfere in its domestic matters.

The act known as NICA-ACT aims to destabilize a country which lives in peace, a country acknowledged for its social, economic and security achievements, in a successful political model of alliances and unity in every sphere.

The countries of ALBA express their support of and solidarity with the people and Government of Nicaragua, and they reiterate their rejection of this new aggression against a nation that has been able to defend with dignity its right to wellbeing, social harmony, security and peace.
