EMPOWERING WOMEN IN NICARAGUA

The World Economic Forum has published its Global Gender Gap report and has ranked Nicaragua Number 6, up four positions from 2016. And for the 6th year running Nicaragua is the country with more gender equality in the whole of the Latin America and Caribbean region. Globally, Nicaragua comes after: Iceland(1), Norway (2), Finland (3), Rwanda (4) y Sweden (5). The UK is in 15th place!

Nicaragua is among the 6 countries that has managed to close the gender gap by more than 80%. Nicaragua went up in the index because of the Income indicator, and for the first time was ranked among the first 10.

The country went up 2 steps (to second place) in the sub-index of “Political Empowerment” (getting 46% of women in parliament, the 5th in the world).
