Domingo Perez, General Secretary of Nicaraguan Public Sector Union UNE, when he visited the UK in his speaker tour last June

Comradely greetings from the Public Sector Union UNE and myself, as Secretary General.

From the strength of our trade unionism, we want to express the unconditional solidarity of the public and municipal employees in Nicaragua with the British trade union movement. We urge you to keep fighting against the exclusionary neoliberal policies being driven by the right-wing coalition government in the UK. They want to dismantle the welfare state in your society, which is in fact the result of hard won battles of your trade union movement.

They want to reduce the general budget, eliminating social programs and projects and of course forcing through job cuts and the slashing of your pension system.

The only way to effectively challenge these neoliberal policies is from the strength and the unity of workers and trade unionists from all sectors. Street mobilization and a massive response to the strike actions will show the rich and powerful that the people is willing to fight to build an economic model based in equality and social justice.

The call is then to the British people, so that they embrace a revolutionary spirit and show, with facts, that another world is indeed possible and that we are able to build it TOGETHER, here and NOW.

This 30th of November from Nicaragua we will be closely following the development of your strikes, and so we wanted to send you a warm and firm solidarity message. History has shown that social changes brought about when the working class mobilizes as one bloc cannot be stopped.

Adelante! The victory is OURS!

Adelante! UNITED WE WILL WIN!
