Nicaragua, trade unions and elections: what difference has 9 years of Sandinista government made?

Saturday 18 June, 2.00 – 3.30pm, Unite the Union, 128 Theobalds Rd, London WC1X 8TN (Holborn)

Speakers: Domingo Perez, General Secretary of the Nicaraguan Public Service Union (UNE), Maria Nela Gaitan, General Secretary of the Roberto Herrera Health Centre branch of the health union FETSALUD, Guisell Morales, Nicaraguan Ambassador to the UK.

On 6 November, Nicaraguans will go to the polls in Presidential and National Assembly elections. How is Nicaragua different from the country the Sandinistas inherited in 2007? What have the changes meant for trade unionists and those most impoverished? What form is US interference likely to take in the elections? How is the destabilisation in Venezuela and Brazil likely to affect the outcome?
