NSCAG pays tribute to Jacinto Suárez Espinoza

NSCAG News | on: Friday, 3 April 2020

We are greatly saddened by the news of the death of Jacinto Suárez Espinoza on 2nd April. We recognise the profound contribution that Jacinto made over more than five decades to realising the dream and vision of Sandinismo not only in Nicaragua but also in Latin America and internationally.

A historical Sandinista activist, Jacinto was a member of Nicaragua’s National Assembly, where he was President of the International Relations Commission. Throughout his life, Jacinto devoted himself unfailingly to the liberation struggles of Nicaragua and the world. His political career began during the criminal dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza; during this time, he suffered torture, persecution and more than seven years in prison. Yet in all that time he never once renounced his values and principles.

After the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution in 1979, Jacinto had a long diplomatic career and was the protagonist of the advances in the model of government proposed by the revolutionary movement.

Throughout his life, Jacinto remained firm in his commitment to the defence of Nicaragua and the fight against neo-liberal and imperialist policies.

NSCAG offers condolences to Jacinto’s comrades, family and friends. We are sure that his work, his achievements and his memory will live on. May he rest in peace.
