Following on from a previous exchange visit with Nicaragua that took place in 2017, sponsored by the then NUT, a second exchange visit took place in July/August this year when a group of eleven primary and secondary trained teachers visited Nicaragua to meet with their counterparts, all teachers of English as a second language at primary and secondary level.

As before, the visit, sponsored by the National Education Union, focussed on discussions and methodology around the teaching of a second language. The NEU members, all of whom were experienced teachers of Spanish as a second language took part in workshops and practical sessions with Nicaraguan teachers of English as a second language. They stayed in the homes of members of the Nicaraguan teachers' union ANDEN and therefore also learned something about Nicaraguan culture and their way of life. The programme in Nicaragua was organised and hosted by the NEU's sister union ANDEN, with the support of the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education MINED.

The delegation was extremely successful and a detailed report prepared by the group can be found here.

'All were thankful for this unique opportunity to participate in the Teacher Exchange Programme and departed Nicaragua rich in memories, humbled by the hospitality received and laden with colourful, handcrafted Nicaraguan gifts. Many thanks to the NEU, NSCAG and ANDEN for coordinating and supporting such a special experience for all involved.' - quote from the delegation report
