Participants at the European Solidarity Conference show their support for Nicaragua

From 24-26 March, NSCAG hosted a conference of the European Committee of Solidarity with the Sandinista People’s Revolution. The conference took place as a hybrid meeting, with 15 participants attending the meeting in London and online participation by an additional 77 people. Countries represented included Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland. The conference focussed on the defence of Nicaragua’s sovereignty and its right to self-determination and on the condemnation and rejection of persistent aggression by the United States.

The first part of the conference was devoted to discussion of reports from the various solidarity groups. This was followed by presentations from the following speakers:-

Fabrizio Casari - Italian journalist, researcher, political analyst and editor of the digital newspaper Altrenotizie.

Maurice Lemoine - Independent journalist and writer. Specialist in Latin America. Former editor-in-chief of Le Monde Diplomatique (1997-2010).

John Perry - British, author, journalist and researcher of social and political processes in Central America, especially Nicaragua and Senior Researcher at the Council of Hemispheric Affairs (COHA).

Flor Avellán – Deputy General Secretary, the Union of Self-Employed Workers of Nicaragua, CTCP.

A high-level Ministerial delegation from Nicaragua participated in the Conference online and presented on Defence of National Sovereignty and Dignity Consolidation of social, political, cultural and economic rights in today's Nicaragua. The delegation comprised Gustavo Porras, President of the National Assembly, Alba Luz Ramos, Magistrate President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Wálmaro Gutiérrez, Member of Parliament, Brenda Isabel Rocha, Magistrate President of the Supreme Electoral Council, Lumberto Campbell Hooker, Proprietary Magistrate of the Supreme Electoral Council and Wendy Morales, Attorney General of the Republic.
