May Day message from Nicaragua Public Service Union

NSCAG News | on: Thursday, 1 May 2014

We send solidarity greetings from our trade union UNE, from our 45,000 members and from myself, Domingo Perez, in my capacity as General Secretary.

On this first of May, our trade union organisations must unite and mobilize against what Pope John Paul 11 described as the ruthless capitalist economic model, the principle cause of unemployment globally especially affecting hundreds of millions of women and young people; the principal cause of impoverishment and hunger in all corners of the world; a model that enriches the rich and impoverishes the poor.

We must unite and mobilize globally to prevent cuts in public expenditure, especially budgets for health and education. In the UK, if cuts must be made it should be in the budget for the Royal family and all their class.

We must defend the employment of our members; defend our social and trade union rights achieved through years of struggle. Our slogan is ‘A right that we fail to defend is a right lost.’

LONG LIVE OUR TRADE UNIONS!

LONG LIVE THE WORKERS OF THE WORLD!

Domingo Pérez

General Secretary UNE
